A family of faith that is Christ-centered, Spirit-led, Bible-driven for the Glory of God

Pastor's Desk

This week we continue our study on "The Foundations of the Faith" by studying the doctrine of 'glorification.'

Glorification

June 28, 2010

For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; and these whom He predestined, He also called; and these whom He called, He also justified; and these whom He justified, He also glorified. —Romans 8:29-30

Glorification is the final step in the application of redemption. It will happen when Christ returns and raises the dead bodies of all believers for all time who have died and reunite them with their souls. Those believers who are alive at Christ’s return will be transformed perfectly. Glorification results from justification, as Romans 8:30, quoted above states. Therefore, glorification is a guaranteed promise by the grace of God. Glorification is certain, for it is the redemption of the body. This is the hope of the saints. The certainty of Christ’s return and the believers subsequent glorification, is set forth in Philippians 3:20-21 which states, "For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ; who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of power that He has even to subject all things to Himself." According to these verses, believers can confidently expect the return of Christ and their glorification. Our glorification is as sure as God’s Word.

Personal reading and reflection:

Read Colossians 3:4. According to this verse, what is the ground for the believers glorification.

Read I Corinthians 15:50-57. What do these verses teach us about the return of Christ and the believer’s glorification? According to verse 58, what should we be doing as we anticipate the Lord’s return and our glorification?
